Akufo-Addo Comments Devalue Cash For Seat Probe – MFWA

The Media Foundation for West Africa has accused President Akufo-Addo of devaluing the work of the ‘cash for seat’ committee with is attempts to dismiss the issue.

In a statement after the president met at journalists at the Flagstaff House, the MFWA said: “The worst moment in the president’s responses was his attempt to discount or dismiss the on-going bi-partisan investigations into what has become known as the “cash for seat” saga. Indeed, the President’s comment devalues the on-going work of the bi-partisan committee. This is especially so because the President in his introductory remarks took pride in the fact that under the first year of his administration, a number of bi-partisan investigative committees have been set up to investigate allegations of wrongdoing”.

President Akufo-Addo in his encounter described the allegation as flimsy and irresponsible.

“In fact, I think that the position that I have taken potentially…could lend me into a lot of problems which is to say that any allegation that is made against any appointee of mine will be investigated.

“And that opens you up for having to investigate even the flimsiest and irresponsible allegations that are made. …like for instance what is going on in parliament now,” the President said.

Also reacting to the comment, a witness at the ongoing parliamentary committee Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa  accused  of undermining the committee.

“It is prejudicial, it sub judique, you don’t do that. The whole process has been undermined, he has just bastardised the whole special committee’s work, it’s really a sad day for our democracy,” he told Starr News.
