Bawumia ‘doing very well’– Mustapha Hamid

Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is recuperating well and will be flown back home soon, Minister of Information Mustapha Abdul-Hamid has said.

Dr Bawumia was reported to have taken ill on Friday, 19 January and was flown to the UK on Saturday for medical attention.

Addressing journalists on Monday, 22 January, Mr Abdul-Hamid said: “We wish to report that he is doing very well.

“The Chief Of Staff and other senior government officials have been talking to him. God willing, he will be back home shortly to resume his duties.”

Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament has chastised the presidency about its communication with regard to the vice-president’s illness.

“Mr Speaker, we are not happy with government communicators at the office of the president. Mr. Speaker, it is a sensitive matter. I could be ill myself, but Mr Speaker, they should communicate well. I have sighted a letter where they say he is on medical leave. What medical leave? Words matter,” Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu said on Sunday during an emergency sitting to swear in Speaker of Parliament Prof Mike Oquaye as acting president.
