Manchester United considered selling Arsenal star Henrikh Mkhitaryan after just six months

MANCHESTER UNITED reportedly considered selling Arsenal star Henrikh Mkhitaryan in January 2017, mere months after his arrival from Borussia Dortmund.
Manchester United have gifted Mkhitaryan to Arsenal with Alexis Sanchez moving to Old Trafford as part of the deal.

The Armenia international endured a rocky 18 months at Old Trafford with Jose Mourinho never appearing convinced.

Eyebrows were raised when he arrived with many feeling he was a sweeter for Mino Raiola, who then played a key role as Paul Pogba sealed a stunning £89million return to the club.

And the Manchester Evening News say Manchester United boss Mourinho considered selling Mkhitaryan after just six months, such was his disappointment with the player.

Mkhitaryan impressed on his debut against Hull, starring as Marcus Rashford struck a late winner.
But the 28-year-old was then exiled for three months after a nightmare performance against Manchester City.

Hooked at half-time, the 29-year-old never seemed to recover, despite shining as the club won the Europa League.

Mkhitaryan’s fleeting upturn in form and fortune ultimately saw Mourinho opt against selling him in his first January transfer window at the club.

But the MEN’s report suggests the forward’s relationship with his manager was far from perfect.

Mourinho did, however, pay him a glowing tribute earlier this week after his move from Arsenal was completed.

“I would like to wish Henrikh all the success and happiness that I am sure he is going to get,” Mourinho said.

“He is a player that we will not forget, especially for his contribution to our Europa League victory.”

Mkhitaryan’s new club, Arsenal, coped without him to beat Chelsea 2-1 in their EFL Cup semi-final clash last night.

The Gunners will now go up against Manchester City on February 25.
