Mahama isn’t a child to be forced to lead NDC in 2020 – Kofi Adams

The National Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Kofi Adams has debunked claims by some party members pointing accusing fingers at him as being one of the party leaders trying to force Former President John Dramani Mahama to lead the party in 2020.

Mr. Adams has also denied he personally endorsed the former leader but explained that what he may have done is just telling the truth to his party members which in the end may vindicate all of them.

According to him, the former president is not a child to be forced into leading the party and can do so on his own volition when the time is ripe.

“Mr. Mahama is not a child for I Kofi Adams to force him to come and contest. He is not the type who you can force to take a decision. He is one of the great leaders who consult broadly to take decisions. He is not easily influenced, never”. Kofi Adams told Abusua Fm in Kumasi.

His response came following accusations by some party members of the NDC chastising him for endorsing Mr. Mahama to lead them in the 2020 general elections.

However, many political analysts have argued that it will not be reasonable enough for the former president to lead his party come 2020.

The issue is still controversial since the former leader has on many occasions led his party member on “Unity Walk” in most parts of the country. Some say Mr. Mahama is still interested to lead his people looking at his activeness in the party last year with sections claiming the Unity Walks are just curtain raiser to stage a possible comeback.

Many have blamed the former President for the disgraceful defeat of the NDC at the December 2016 polls but Mr Adams is among those who disagree.

“First of all, anyone who claims the NDC lost 2016 general election because of our candidate is lying”. Kofi Adams stressed

He further alleged that the ruling New Patriotic Party won power based on lies, adding that what is happening under the leadership of Nana Addo clearly affirms that they never won the polls on merit.

“Explaining his argument, Mr. Adam indicated that, his statement made earlier does not mean Mr. Mahama must contest for the flag bearership position or not.

“I can’t sit there for somebody to tell me Mahama wasn’t the best whiles I know it’s not the truth. But on any day, anytime even when there is a knife in my throat I will still speak the truth. I Kofi Adams as the National Organizer will say it on any day that, Former President Mahama was the best candidate in 2016 and till date, I still see him the best”. He indicated

He stressed that, if anybody is worried about his statement, then he is worried about the truth and not him personally.
