Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho delivers contract ultimatum to Luke Shaw

The Red Devils recently activated a one-year extension on the defender’s deal that now takes him up until the summer of 2019.

Shaw was publicly criticised by Mourinho last season for his displays and spent plenty of time on the sidelines.

Many thought the England international would be heading for the exit with his previous contract up at the end of the season.



But an upturn in form has seen Mourinho reconsider Shaw’s future, with the Sun claiming the Portuguese boss wants to offer him a new deal.

An Old Trafford source told the paper: “Luke has had a series of one-on-one chats with the boss.

“He told him he will sanction an extended deal if he can continue to improve and make his mark.

“It’s an amazing turnaround for him after everything that’s happened. Luke is in a much better frame of mind now.

“He feels he has a future here despite everything that has been said and talked about.”

Shaw’s best spell at Old Trafford came under Mourino’s predecesseor Louis van Gaal as he helped United win the FA Cup.

But following Mourinho’s arrival at the helm, Shaw, along with Henrikh Mkhitaryan, were subjected to harsh criticism from the former Chelsea boss.

Shaw has made 37 league appearances for United since joining from Southampton in 2014.
