The last week has seen PS Plus subscribers on an emotional rollercoaster as games were leaked, questioned, revealed as fake and then bizarrely offered for free again.
Initially, it was suggested that the PS Plus February 2018 line-up had leaked ahead of time, with Far Cry 4, Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin and PlayLink title That’s You all on offer.
However, a new post on the PlayStation Reddit page over the weekend then verified that the leak was a big fat fake.
“Hi my name is George Awad I’m the creator of the image that’s been going around like wildfire and to prove it I’ll provide this image where I moved a few thing around,” began the confessional Reddit thread.
“I made this as a joke on facebook and someone put this on Reddit and it spread like wildfire.” continued the post, which also included a screengrab of the image being mocked on last months official image which featured Darksiders 2.
Even more bizarrely, Sony then offered Far Cry 4, for free, to anyone who wanted to take out a 12-month membership for PlayStation Plus, provided, they didn’t already have an active subscription.
Today though, we should finally learn what games will be available for free in February, as Sony (like clockwork) release their new games on the first Tuesday of the month and announcing them on Wednesday beforehand, which is today.
Usually, these announcements arrive at around 4.30pm, so stay tuned for more information close to that time, and any potential (hopefully verified) leaks as well.
For the sake of anyone who hasn’t opted into Sony’s incredible PlayStation Plus service at the dirt cheap price of £6.99 a month – Or £49.99 for the year / £19.99 for three months.
Here’s what you get:
• Access to online multiplayer on your PlayStation 4
• Exclusive discounts at PlayStation Store
• Share Play – so your friends can play your games even if they don’t own a copy themselves
• 10GB of cloud storage for your PS4 game saves
More important than any of that is the fact Sony give away 24 PS4 games a year, completely free. And on top of that, a whole host of PS3 and PS Vita games as well, just to sweeten the deal.
So, when you think about it, signing up to PlayStation Plus is a bit of a no-brainer, really.
The February titles might be over a week away from release, but players can still grab the PS Plus January 2018 free games lineup in the meantime.
The January line-up included a cracking selection of free games for PS4, PS3, PlayStation VR and PS Vita owners to play, provided they have a PlayStation Plus subscription.
In January fans could pick up the following games:
• Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (PS4)
• Batman: The Telltale Series (PS4)
• StarBlood Arena (PS Plus bonus – PS VR required)
• That’s You! (PS Plus bonus – PlayLink)
• Sacred 3 (PS3)
• Book of Unwritten Tales 2 (PS3)
• Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness (PS Vita)
• Uncanny Valley (PS Vita & PS4)
Once again, don’t hang about and forget to download these games because they’ll no longer be available once the new February games arrive.
