Is Asiedu Nketia interested in being Special Prosecutor? – John Boadu asks

Acting General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, is wondering if his colleague from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is interested in the Special Prosecutor job.

According to him, Johnson Asiedu Nketia and his cohorts have only resorted to criticizing Martin ABK Amidu because they are scared of being prosecuted.

“I don’t see why Asiedu Nketia and his NDC members are against the nomination of Amidu. If he wants to be the prosecutor, he should go ahead. Even if they need Mahama or Koku, they should tell us so we give them the post”, he said on Accra-based Neat FM.

Mr. Boadu’s comments come after the NDC asked Parliament to discharge its obligation on the vetting of Martin Amidu as Special Prosecutor (SP) devoid of the “shrill partisanship conduct” that greeted news of his announcement as SP, a couple of weeks ago.

Martin Amidu is due for parliamentary vetting next week, however his party members say following his own, not too long ago, repudiation of the very office he has now accepted to occupy, he cannot be the ideal candidate, based on principle.

A statement issued by the party, signed by its General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, said the NDC, a party with rich knowledge of the workings of machinery of state, respects all national institutions including especially those that are designed to assure good governance, probity, accountability and judicious use of the country’s resources.

“We observe that after falling out with the NDC administration, Mr. Martin Amidu was allowed free rein to express his opinions without let or hindrance, something he did by openly castigating and issuing threats to the NDC and its leadership. We are not at all concerned, contrary to the insinuations of some that he should now be handed the full authority of state power to possibly pursue this agenda.

But Mr. Boadu who accused Asiedu Nketia and Koku Anyidoho of allegedly benefiting from the GH¢51.2 million judgment debt wrongfully paid to Alfred Woyome said the NDC’s decision to criticize Mr Amidu is borne out of hatred.

He believes Martin Amidu is independent-minded and will not be influenced by political or party consideration.

He therefore urged the NDC to rather bring their solutions to bear instead of bashing the government for appointing Martin Amidu.
