Chelsea captain Gary Cahill speaks out about Antonio Conte future

GARY CAHILL claims Chelsea players have to take responsibility as Antonio Conte’s exit looms.
Chelsea captain Cahill understands that a decision might be made soon regarding the future of Italian Conte.

Chelsea’s 4-1 defeat to Watford last night left them just one point ahead of Tottenham in the race for a Champions League spot.

“This is the worst I’ve felt for quite a while,” he told BBC Sport.

The England defender admitted that the current situation at Chelsea is far from what he, and his teammates, had hoped for.

“Performance-wise, I didn’t recognise us or myself. It was abysmal.” Cahill added.
The future of Conte looks set to mirror that of his predecessor Jose Mourinho. In his second spell in charge at the London club, Mourinho helped Chelsea to the league title before a dip in form the following year led to his sacking.

“Whatever is decided, the players have to take responsibility,” Cahill said.”The manager has done an absolutely unbelievable job.”
Conte has won an impressive 59 of his 86 games as Chelsea manager, giving him a win ratio of 69%. An increase of 10% since Mourinho’s second spell.

Cahill added: “We just need to keep strong. I’ve been here before at this club – it’s about staying calm. It hurts a lot when you come off after a performance like that.”
