Man Utd make summer transfer plans amid worries over Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof

MANCHESTER UNITED will not be pursuing a defender in the summer despite fears over Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof, according to reports.
Manchester United have been tipped to sign Real Madrid ace Raphael Varane as part of a deal that could see David De Gea move to the Bernabeu.

The club strengthened in the summer by luring Lindelof away from Benfica – though the Sweden international has struggled since his move to Old Trafford.

Lindelof’s erratic form, coupled with Bailly’s injury problems, has led to talk that Jose Mourinho will attempt to strengthen his defence when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season.

But the Manchester Evening News say Manchester United will not be signing a centre-back because Mourinho’s priorities lie elsewhere.

Lindelof continues to be left out despite the Red Devils reportedly having faith in the 23-year-old.
Bailly, meanwhile, has been restricted to just 10 appearances so far this season.

When fully fit, the Ivory Coast international is among the best defenders in the top flight.

Yet the fact he has made just 48 appearances since his move from Villarreal in 2016 speaks volumes.

The MEN say, however, that United have decided they want to strengthen elsewhere.

Mourinho would prefer to sign a right winger, despite landing Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal last month.
A central midfielder and full-back is also said to be on his wanted list.

Should, however, Lindelof and Bailly continue to toil then United may turn to Axel Tuanzebe for next season.

The 20-year-old is currently spending the second half of the season at Aston Villa.

And Mourinho rates him highly, having given him his debut last season.
