Akufo-Addo sowing enmity between Rawlings, NDC – Minority

The Minority in Parliament has accused President Nana Akufo-Addo of sowing seeds of enmity within the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, who addressed a post-State of the Nation Address press conference, said the Minority was surprised that President Akufo-Addo is now singing the praises of ex-President Jerry John Rawlings.

He criticised the president for suggesting that the Minority in parliament no more recognised Mr Rawlings even though the ex-president is the founder of the NDC.

“We also saw President Nana Addo Dankwa attempting to sow seeds of feud between the NDC Minority Caucus and our founder Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings. Even the unquestionable pre-historical fact about the founder of Ghana, the same Nana Addo Dankwa is raising doubts and questions,” he said on Friday, February 9.

President Akufo-Addo said in his second State of the Nation Address on Thursday that “the founder of the party is today no longer recognised by the members of his party.”

The president made the comment while acknowledging the presence of Mr Rawlings and two other former presidents in parliament as he began delivering his address.

Nana Akufo-Addo’s comment was a response to Minority MPs who kept jeering at him when he recognised the presence of Mr and Mrs Rawlings in the chamber.

Some NDC members fell out with the Rawlingses in the lead-up to the 2016 general elections.

But the Minority is not happy about the conduct of the president.
