Charlotte Osei’s appointment: Why didn’t NDC challenge me? – Martin Amidu jabs

Former Attorney General, Martin Alamisi Amidu in an article, accused John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of appointing Charlotte Osei to the Electoral Commission to rig the 2016 election in its favour.

Although the NDC was defeated by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the last election, Mr. Amidu insisted that “…as I said time without number during the 2016 elections, she was appointed by a corrupt Government precisely because of her incompetence that made her susceptible for use for an election rigging agenda.”

Speaking to this issue when he appeared before the Appointment Committee of Parliament on Tuesday following a question put to him by a member of the Committee, Martin Amidu queried why the erstwhile Mahama administration did not take him to court to provide evidence to his claims.

According to him, the NDC were afraid of losing the case that was why “they didn’t say anything when I made those comments”.

He was also of the view that, since Madam Charlotte Osei is engulfed in a case in court, it will be prejudicial to provide information on the subject matter.

“I would have wished that at the time I was making this claim, the government should have picked me, quizzed me and sent me to court so I will prove my case there. It is too late in the day to ask me to provide an answer now when the EC chair is currently before the Chief Justice with a possible impeachment hanging around her neck,” he indicated.
