The Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu was wrong to indicate during his vetting that one’s biological children are no longer your children after they became adults, Lawyer Samson Ayennni has said.
The former Attorney General answering questions at the Appointment’s Committee of Parliament Tuesday opined that his children are now his adult companions and no longer his children.
His comments sparked a debate among Ghanaians with some stating that the seasoned legal practitioner was wrong.
Speaking on Starr Chat Wednesday, Ayenini stated the Mr. Amidu attempted to re-write the laws.
“…It was an attempt to rewrite the laws, it wasn’t really a question of opinion. It is beyond opinions because our laws are really clear on the matter,” Ayenini told host Bola Ray.
Asked whether the Citizen vigilante goofed on that issue, the host of Newsfile said “Yes, he did,” adding that “once again it wasn’t a matter of opinion, it was a matter of law and he couldn’t change the laws.”
Ayenini also stated that Mr. Amidu should have apologised to North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa after he wrongly accused him of authoring an article he found offensive.
“I think it was so wrong for him to insist that as far as he is concerned he believes that it was Okudzeto, and he keeps that believe, that’s so wrong.
“He knows that he is dealing with legal processes, and that is what he is good at and in legal process, you can’t prove that he is the one when someone else has come and said I’m the one who did it. He absolutely does not have any prove, and he didn’t give any.”
