NEMANJA MATIC has made a big statement about team-mate Paul Pogba.
The Frenchman has fallen out of favour at Man Utd in recent weeks and completely missed the win against Huddersfield in the FA Cup.
Youngster Scott McTominay stepped in for Pogba, who was said to be ill, and partnered Matic in the middle of the park.
Matic is hopeful his regular colleague will be back in time for the Champions League tie at Sevilla on Wednesday (7.45pm).
The Serbian also backed Pogba find his top form soon as he is dubbed an “important” player for the Red Devils.
“He is an important player for us, this club, but he is ill and I think that we in the midfield did great,” Matic said.
“Michael [Carrick] is an amazing player even at 36 he ran a lot and Scott [McTominay] played amazing.
“I am not sure what has happened, I think he was ill and didn’t feel very well so I hope he will be ready for the next game.”
Matic also underlined the importance of carrying on their momentum in Europe.
“It was important to get the win today for our confidence,” he added.
“We have the Champions League now against against a very good side.
“It’s important for us, we have to recover well because this game was very hard for us and we have to give our best, play good football if we are going to win.”
