KSM’s final curtain call

KSM’s final curtain call

For a very long time, Kwaku Sintim-Misa (KSM) was known as the Undisputed King of Comedy and he lived by that accolade until he passed on the baton to comedian DKB two years ago.

Interestingly, DKB has conferred on him the title of Emperor of Comedy.

Showbiz caught up with KSM last Monday and though he concedes that his reign as the king of comedy is over, he maintains that he has one last major stage performance left in him before he finally retires.

“I am about to retire but that is after the last show left in me has been performed.

I can’t fizzle out just like that. I need to say a proper goodbye to my fans.

When I take my curtain call and bow after that show, then I know my love affair with the stage is done,” he explained.

Incidentally, the title of the show is KSM—The Final Curtain Call and it is scheduled to come off in a few months.

At 61, the vibrant and active KSM declared with laughter that he is going to unleash the energy of the “youngest old man in GH on that day.”

“It’s not going to be just a show, it is going to be a memorable event,” he said.

Although he might have hit the limelight with his one-man play, Saga of a Returnee in 1997, KSM has in fact been entertaining Ghanaians since 1977 when he staged his first play, Mellow Madness.

Forty-one years later, he is still a vivacious talk show host on one of the most respected prime-time shows on television.

His show, The KSM Show has been on air since 2003 and it is still hot and relevant.

There are rumours of KSM bowing out of TV too and Showbiz asked him about that as well and his response was uncertain.

“Yes, because I am eventually going to pass on the hosting to a young brilliant talented guy.

He is fascinating, and I can’t think of a better replacement to take over from me,” he said.

The No is because he is not totally leaving TV.

He explained that he is shifting from hosting and stepping into the shoes of a full-time executive producer.

This he said would enable him to focus on churning out quality local content for radio and television.

He hinted that he was in discussions with a couple of TV stations who are looking to engage Sapphire as their production wing.

“I am very excited about this. When the deal is sealed with the stations, Ghana will know the details,” he said.

For now, he is preparing for his very last performance. It’s still some months away, but he is not taking any chances.

He is determined to go out with a bang and is obsessed with putting up what everyone will say is his best performance ever.
