Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp gives Sadio Mane contract update ahead of West Ham clash

LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp has played it cool when quizzed about Sadio Mane’s future.

Mane is currently in his second season at Liverpool and, though injuries have prevented him from kicking on, the player has recently rediscovered his best form.

The Senegal star bagged a sublime hat-trick as the Reds thumped Porto 5-0 in the Champions League last week.

That treble has sparked talk of a new deal with Liverpool determined to tie their wing wizard down for the long term.

But, speaking ahead of Liverpool‘s Premier League showdown with West Ham, Klopp flatly refused to shed some light on the situation.

“There’s nothing to do about that,” he said in his pre-match press conference.

“That we want to keep the players together is not a secret.

“We want to keep Sadio here – keep this team and strengthen it.”

Klopp’s words come just days after the German lauded Mane for finding the form that made him one of the league’s most exciting players last term.

“It was so often that we spoke so positively about Roberto and Mo – and Phil [Coutinho] when he was still here – and the ‘Fab Four’ and now the ‘Fab Three’ if that’s possible,” he said.

“Sadio had good games. He had a really good game against Manchester City not so long ago. It’s only that it was not his constant level that we are used to seeing.

“You think of Sadio Mane and he is very decisive, controls the ball well, he is a threat all the time for the other team, works hard and all that stuff.

“He has worked hard. For five or six weeks he has trained at a constantly high level. That’s the only way to come back into shape.”

Mane currently sits on 12 games for the season.

And a goal against West Ham would see him match his entire tally for the whole of last term.
