MANCHESTER UNITED have placed a £88million price tag on David de Gea because of the “Neymar effect”.
De Gea is once again at the forefront of significant transfer speculation with Real Madrid refusing to give up on the goalkeeper.
On Wednesday, the 27-year-old showed that he is arguably the world’s best with a stunning display against Sevilla in the Champions League.
De Gea has less than 18 months left on his contract, with an option to extend by a year, and Manchester United are desperate to keep him at Old Trafford.
But the threat of a move to Real Madrid remains entirely possible.
And according to Spanish newspaper Marca, United have slapped a £88m (100m euros) price tag on the goalkeeper in a bid to ward off potential suitors.
The report says De Gea’s asking price is so high because of the fee Paris Saint-Germain paid for Neymar.
In the summer, Neymar joined PSG from Barcelona for £200m (222m euros) and Marca claim that transfer prices which were once £50m are now valued at £100m.
Should Real fail to sign De Gea, they could make a push for Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois.
And Courtois admitted his agent would listen to Real.
“I’m not clear about my future, what I said that my heart is in Madrid was misunderstood,” Courtois said.
“I have two children in Spain, in Madrid, and that’s not easy. I have one year left [here] and I’m happy and talking to Chelsea.
“They have bet on me from the first moment and that is not forgotten.
“I do not think [Real Madrid president] Florentino Perez calls me, he will call my agent and he will listen to him.”
