Stop misleading Ghanaians – Asiedu Nketia tells Akufo-Addo

General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as a conspirator who is working very hard to deliberately mislead the public over the recent Corruption Perception Index (CPI) report.

According to him, the President last Friday during the swearing in of the Special Prosecutor repeated the “outrageous” and “misleading” claim when he said the terrible performance recorded for the 2017 CPI ranking was due to allegations of corruption recorded in the previous government before he assumed office.

The NDC chief scribe stated further that it is a matter of public knowledge that the 2017 CPI was produced from nine data sources and only two or 22% out of the sources were traceable to 2016.

He said the remaining seven sources representing 88% were recorded in 2017, which means that an overwhelming majority of data sources used in the survey were based on happenings in the first year of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia led administration.

The General Secretary who was speaking to the media at the NDC Headquarters in Accra on the 2017 CPI said, “It is a matter of public record that a CPI dedicated to the year 2016 exists and everything that happened under the NDC government would have been into account in its production. In that particular survey, Ghana scored 43% and placed 70th, three percentage points and eleven places higher than the 2017 score.”

He added that “The assertion by President Akufo-Addo therefore that the 2017 CPI was mostly the results of happenings before his tenure is completely false and it would help if he recognise the need as President to steer clear off such blatant untruths and pedestrian propaganda.”

General Mosquito also stated that the lack of Presidential candour demonstrated by the President does little to instil the public confidence in his utterances and by shirking responsibility for his government’s obviously poor performance in the area of fighting corruption, “the President has further weakened already shaky confidence in his ability to fight the canker.”
