USAIN BOLT has announced his first move into football…
Bolt teased fans over the weekend with a message claiming he’s signed for his first football team.
And now it has been announced he will take part in Soccer Aid, opposite Robbie Williams, in a charity match at Old Trafford.
The friendly match will take place at Old Trafford on Sunday 10 June, just four days before the World Cup in Russia begins.
Bolt will lead the World Xi with Williams taking charge of the England XI.
“It is my dream to make it as a professional footballer, so to be able to step out onto the pitch at Old Trafford in June, and play against some of football’s biggest legends is going to be remarkable,” Bolt said.
“I enjoy the thrill of competition in front of a crowd, so Robbie and his England team better watch out as I won’t be going easy on them! I’ve got a pretty special celebration planned for when I score, by the way.
“My team is going to be unbeatable – and Soccer Aid for Unicef is counting on your support to make a difference to thousands of children around the world. Come and join in the fun!”
Robbie Williams, Unicef UK Ambassador and co-founder of Soccer Aid, said: “I am buzzing that Soccer Aid for Unicef is back. Reclaiming the title for England this year is going to taste so much sweeter with Usain leading the Soccer Aid World XI.
“I can’t wait to lead out the England team on Sunday 10th June at Old Trafford in what really is a game like no other. With your support, we will help children in danger around the world.”
Back in January Bolt told Express Sport he was due for trials with Borussia Dortmund and had held talks with Sir Alex Ferguson over forging a football career.
“In March we’re going to do a trials with Dortmund and that will determine what I do with that career, which way it goes,” he said.
“If they say I’m good, and that I need a bit of training, I’ll do it.
“It makes me nervous. I don’t get nervous but this is different, this is football now. It’ll take time to adjust but once I play a few times I’ll get used to it. It was the same when I started track and field. I was nervous for a while until I started getting used to the crowd, people and everyone around and it falls into place,
“One of my biggest dreams is to sign for Manchester United. If Dortmund say I’m good enough, I’ll crack on and train hard.
“I’ve spoken to Alex Ferguson and I told him he needs to put in a good word. He told me if I get fit and ready, he will see what he can do.”
