£18m Andre Ayew is now a Swansea enigma

Andre Ayew has been something of an £18m enigma for Swansea City.
So desperate were they to get him back from West Ham United in the summer, they stumped up a club-record fee, signing him to a three-and-a-half year deal.

Yet he has played just 85 minutes out of a possible 270 minutes in all competitions and has been deployed at left wing and central midfield by manager Carlos Carvahal.

He appears to be running into the same problem the Hammers found themselves in: Where to play him?

Ayew played at right wing, centre-forward, left midfield, right midfield and central midfield for the Hammers, and his existence appears to be just as nomadic in south Wales.

He does have history at the club, though, scoring 12 goals in 37 games across his two spells, and had scored six goals for the Hammers before his move, but he looks to be something of a round peg in a square hole right now for the Swans.

Whether he will play this weekend, and indeed in what position, will be one of the major subplots of the game, which is must-win for both teams.

Swansea are currently 18th, just three points behind the Hammers in 13th ahead of their English Premier League clash on Saturday, March 3, 2018.
