Don’t give me a state burial when I die – Efia Odo tells government

Rising Ghanaian movie star, Efia Odo, has claimed that the practice of giving state burials to people should be stopped.

In a report by Zionfelix.net, Efia Odo, also known as Andrea Owusu, argued that on a personal note, she didn’t really care much about the practice, and as such she isn’t interested in getting one when she dies.

The ‘Heels and Sneakers’ star further noted that there is nothing beneficial about a state burial, as the dead body gains nothing from it.

According to her, Ghanaians should celebrate people when they are alive, and then refrain showering praises on dead bodies.



She concluded by saying that “whether I get state burial or not I’m dead”. State burials, per the Ghanaian practice is a prerogative of the sitting president, and is given to people, who are believed to have contributed their quota to Ghana’s growth and development.

The people on which such an honour is bestowed could be from academia, health or politics or the entertainment industry.

With respect to the burial of the late musician, Ebony, it was generally believed she would be accorded a state burial, till the minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Catherine Afeku revealed that there would be nothing like that.

She explained that the government would support the family in order to ensure that she gets a befitting burial on Saturday, March 17, 2018.
