PSG 1 – Real Madrid 2 (2-5): Ronaldo and Casemiro goals seal Champions League progression

CRISTIANO RONALDO’s rich vein of Champions League form continued as his second-half strike helped Real Madrid into the quarter-finals of the competition.
Having held a 3-1 lead going into the Parc des Princes clash, PSG were expected to come out the quickest from the blocks.

But without talisman Neymar, the Ligue 1 leaders could do little to find a way past Madrid’s defence and rarely tested Keylor Navas.

Cristiano Ronaldo eventually broke the deadlock shortly after a dull first half after he headed home Lucas Vasquez’s cross.

PSG’s task was made much harder when midfielder Marco Verratti received his marching orders after picking up a second yellow for a late challenge on Casemiro.

However, the home side did have a small bit of hope when Edinson Cavani smashed the ball home from close range after a mix up in the Madrid box.

But Casemiro made sure of Real’s progression with 10 minutes to go as his strike whistled past Marquinhos into the back of the net.

The reigning champions have now reached the quarter-finals for the eighth season in a row.
