Augustine Antwi Agyengo, aged 36, has been arrested by the Sefwi Bekwai Police for parading himself as a policeman and extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public.
According to the police, they had been receiving a series of complaints against the suspect who has been telling potential applicants he could help recruit them into the police service.
Based on these false representations, he succeeded in obtaining a combined amount of GHC17,000 cedis from his victims Margaret Afful, David Mintah, Philip Essah and Kwadwo Appiah to have their children enlisted in the Ghana Police Service.
Augustine after collecting the money went into hiding until one of the victims sighted him at Sankore and caused his arrest on the 5th of March. The suspect is currently in police custody in Sefwi Bekwai.
It is believed that more complainants in and outside Sefwi Bekwai will come forward to make complaints against him once they get wind of his arrest.
