Opuni, Agongo face 27 charges for causing financial loss to the state

Former Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD, Dr Stephen Opuni and Businessman cum Chief Executive Officer of Zeera Group of Companies, Alhaji Seidu Agongo have been hauled before an Accra High Court today allegedly for causing financial loss to the state.

According to information gathered by MyNewsGh.com, both face 27 charges and are expected to make their first appearance in court on Friday, March 23, 2018.

Details of what exactly they did remain sketchy as state prosecutors are unwilling to divulge the ingredients of the charges leveled against them to the media.

But it would be recalled that Controversial lawmaker for Assin Central Constituency, Kennedy Agyapong wanted President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo through his Attorney General to expedite action on alleged corrupt past officials under erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) without further delay.

He had proposed that immediate steps should be taken to haul them before the courts even before the arrival of the Independent Special Prosecutor (IPP), Martin Amidu warning that further delay will lead to the shielding of concrete evidence against these past appointees.

According to him, if the government fails to prosecute and jail Dr Stephen Opuni, a former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cocobod in particular, they should forget the 2020 elections because they will incur the wrath of Ghanaians.

“The more they delay, the more concrete evidence is shielded from the public. I think the processes to haul these past appointees before the court should begin immediately before the IPP is put in place in the future. I am aware a docket for the prosecution of 5 officials including Dr Opuni is ready by the CID”, he revealed Net 2 TV’s morning show “National Agenda”
