MANCHESTER UNITED board members are mulling over the future of Jose Mourinho in the wake of the club’s Champions League exit to Sevilla, according to reports.
Manchester United’s season was dealt a hammer blow with the Red Devils slumping to a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Sevilla at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils remain in contention for the FA Cup but Mourinho now faces a huge battle to deliver silverware in his second season at the helm.
Fans are beginning to turn on the 54-year-old with the club’s insipid display angering supporters still used to the swashbuckling times of Sir Alex Ferguson.
And the Daily Mail say senior Manchester United board members are now considering whether to end Mourinho’s stint in charge at the end of the season.
It could yet be a successful season.
Winning trophies is Mourinho’s forte and part of the reason he was brought in to replace Louis van Gaal back in the summer of 2016.
FA Cup glory would be well-received at Old Trafford and a second-place finish in the Premier League is now the minimum requirement.
But the Daily Mail say United’s negative style of play has board members fearing for the long-term future.
A side consisting of Alexis Sanchez, Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford should be performing better.

And though Mourinho retains the support of Ed Woodward, United board members may press for a change in management come the summer.
Meanwhile, talkSPORT’s Jason Cundy thinks the Sevilla defeat marks the beginning of the end of Mourinho’s time in charge.
“This is the beginning of the end for Jose at Old Trafford,” he said.
“You’ll go back to this result in years to come and say this was the beginning of the end.
“He’s been there for two years, he’s been brought in to win the Premier League and the Champions League and he’s not got close.
“This year they had one of the easiest ties in the group for any English side and they had to get through out of the last-16 against Sevilla.
“This is catastrophic for Jose.
“It’s one of the worst results in his career.”
