INTERNET rumours are circling that Manchester United will play in PINK next season.
A picture of a pink strip with black trimming, complete with sponsor’s name Chevrolet, has been posted online and has set tongues wagging.
The latest image has been posted by @101GreatGoals on Twitter with the message: “Manchester United’s rumoured away jersey for next season… Thoughts?”
And it seems to have incensed fans who have reacted with overriding negativity to the kit.
One wrote “they have always had disgusting shirts, it’s nothing new” while another said “Diluted. Just like their football.”
“Horrendous,” wrote another fan while a fellow supporter begged: “Please be fake news.”
Another posted pleaded: “Please tell me you’re joking.”
While one follower had a theory that the colour could affect United’s form, writing: “NO! Club already seen as soft – this Jersey not needed!!”
United have traditionally played in red since the club’s inception as Manchester United in 1902.
The away strip, meanwhile, has often been a white shirt, black shorts and white socks.
However, there have been occasions where that hasn’t been the case.
They wore an all-black strip with blue and golf trimmings in the 90s and a navy blue shirt with black stripes in the 1999-2000 campaign.
In the 1995-96 campaign they memorably wore a grey away kit which they changed at half-time against Southampton.
The change came amid claims from Sir Alex Ferguson that the players couldn’t tell the difference between their team-mates and the crowd.
United’s third kit is often all blue.
