ALVARO MORATA is having a “bad time” at Chelsea but has received the backing from Diego Costa to turn the situation around.
Morata was left out of the Spain squad for their international friendlies this week.
The £60million striker joined Chelsea from Real Madrid last summer as a replacement for Costa, who went on strike in an effort to force a move to Atletico Madrid.
And while Costa eventually got his move and enjoyed immediate success back in La Liga, Morata has laboured at Stamford Bridge.
Just one goal since Boxing Day saw Morata dropped from the Spain set-up this week, while Costa made his return.
But the former Chelsea frontman reserved praise for his international team-mate and insists Morata will be back in the fray before too long.
“I’m not happy (because he isn’t there), I miss him because we get along very well,” Costa told El Pais.
“The competition is always good for me, nothing has been easy in my life.
“Morata is a great person and a great footballer who is having a little bit of a bad time.
“But he has scored again (versus Leicester last week) and I hope he comes back soon.”
Spain play Germany in their first international friendly on Friday night before a clash with Argentina next week.
Costa will hope to start both matches, having scored six goals in 14 appearances since his return to Atletico.
