ANTHONY MARTIAL looks increasingly likely to join Manchester United’s summer exodus but the advice to under-fire defender Luke Shaw is to knuckle down.
Much has been read into Jose Mourinho’s decision to haul off Shaw at half-time of the 2-0 win at Brighton on Sunday, with the United boss subsequently accusing his side of “lacking, class, personality and desire”.
It has been an uneasy season at Manchester United for Shaw, who has seen Ashley Young usurp his position for both club and country. But the latter’s advice was simple.
“You just have to get your head down and work,” Young said.
“I am not here to talk about other people and whatnot, but obviously he is a player that wants to do well and I want to see him doing well.
“He is a fantastic player. He can be one of the best in the world. You’ve just got to work hard.
“When you join a club like United it’s a tough place to play at. But if you play and you train there and give 100 per cent, you always get your opportunity there.”
Martial’s agent Philippe Lamboley, though, does not quite see things that way, despite dismissing reports he has had meetings with Juventus over a £57m move in the summer.
Mourinho is set for a major overhaul of his squad this summer, and Lamboley refused to rule out his client being part of it.
“Will he stay in Manchester in the summer? I’m sorry, but I can’t say anything else about it at the moment,” he said.
“His goal is to win the FA Cup and to finish in second place in the Premier League with Manchester United, which secures access to the next edition of the Champions League.”
Midfielder Paul Pogba, meanwhile, has cast doubt on his long-term United future by suggesting he would love to link up with Neymar one day after the Brazilian expressed his admiration of a player struggling to get nearly so much praise out of Mourinho at the moment.
The United midfielder said: “I remember what he said about me. I really like him, too.
“When you say Neymar anywhere in the world, everyone knows who he is and what he does. For me, it would be a pleasure to play with him one day.”
