Jose Mourinho launches another tirade at Manchester United critics with shock claim

MANCHESTER UNITED manager Jose Mourinho claims the club are still in a period of transition almost two years after joining the club.
Mourinho is United’s third manager since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, becoming boss in the summer of 2016, but his future is in doubt.

The club have failed to win the Premier League since that season, though they have won the FA Cup and League Cup since.

There have still been failings on the European stage despite Europa League success last year with Manchester United knocked out of this season’s Champions League by Sevilla.

The Red Devils sit second in the Premier League, though remain 16 points behind leaders Manchester City.

And reports have emerged this week that Mourinho may face a battle to keep his job if he fails to win the FA Cup and hang onto second place in the Premier League.

But Mourinho believes the club are still trying to adjust to his regime.

“I understand the frustration, I understand the sadness of being knocked out in the Champions League, but I don’t understand anything more than that,” Mourinho told CNN.

“In the history of football all around the world, not just in England, you had the biggest clubs with the moments of transition, you have the biggest clubs with moments of continuous and permanent victories and these are phases in the club.

“And I think really at this moment in the Premier League we have one team, one club clearly better prepared than us in the past few years to be first and we have 18 clubs behind us. One in front of us, 18 behind us.

“Of course in the future we want to have 19 clubs behind us but this is the reality.

“And the reality is for people with brain, with sense, with common sense, with knowledge of what sports is, we are in a moment of transition.

“Being in a moment of transition and still manage to do what he did last season and win trophies and to do what we are trying to do this season, which is still trying to win a trophy, and try to be second, because in this moment it’s the only top position that is possible for us to get.
“I think we are in a good position.”

It’s a view not shared by many Manchester United fans who feel the club should be in the running for the Premier League title.

United have scored the fewest goals of the teams in the top four and City could potentially could clinch the Premier League title in the Manchester derby on April 7 at the Etihad.

And it’s the lack of free-flowing football that’s disappointing fans at Old Trafford and could see Mourinho leave the club as pressure mounts.
