Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, says majority of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament will lose their seats in the 2020 general elections.
According to him, many of the constituents are angry with the Majority MPs who recommended the ratification of the controversial Defense Corporation Agreement between Ghana and the United States of America.
The Akufo-Addo led government has come under a barrage of attacks following Cabinet’s approval of a Ghana-US military agreement, granting unrestricted access to a host of Ghanaian facilities and wide-ranging tax exemptions to the United States Military.
The agreement amongst other things will permit the U.S. Military to use Ghana as a base for staging and deploying forces.
Despite the unrestricted access and tax exemptions, Ghana has also agreed to bear the cost and take primary responsibility for securing the U.S. facilities in Ghana.
However, the NDC Minority in Parliament and some veteran Ghanaian soldiers in the UK and US army have roundly condemned the Ghana-US military agreement which has since been ratified by Parliament.
In support, Koku Anyidoho on Adom FM’s morning Dwaso Nsem Monday said the MPs have done a great disservice to Ghana.
He noted that majority of Ghanaians including constituents are pained by the “indiscretion” of the legislators whom he says are only in Parliament for partisan interest.
“Some of them are in Parliament with just 10 votes difference so you can image the anger that will hit some of them in 2020”, the NDC Deputy General Secretary stated.
Koku Anyidoho said the NDC will move heaven on earth to ensure that the military agreement is rejected.
“We shall resist the oppressors rule of Nana Akufo-Addo with all our will and might forever more. Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP want to legalize the sale of our sovereignty to the United States of America and we will not allow that to happen”, he stressed.
