Manchester United transfer news: Mourinho ready to battle Man City for Seri

MANCHESTER UNITED have joined Manchester City in the battle to sign Jean-Michel Seri.
Midfielder Seri was courted by Barcelona last summer but Nice refused to sell him.

The Ivory Coast international also supposedly caught the eye of Chelsea and Liverpool.

But in a twist to his ongoing transfer saga it appears as though the two Manchester clubs are now in line to bid for him.

That is according to the MEN, who claim both United and City are keen on the 26-year-old.

Seri is one of a number of midfielders United are supposedly looking at as a replacement for Michael Carrick this summer.
But they may have to fork out a hefty fee if City trigger an auction for the star.

Both clubs have spent around £300m on new talent since Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola arrived in the Premier League back in 2016.

Mourinho says he needs more cash to rival City for domestic and European trophies.

Seri himself was seemingly available for a cut-price fee of between £20m and £30m back in August but could not force his way out of Nice.
The former Porto B player, who arrived in France in 2015, has made 30 appearances for Nice this season, scoring once.

The MEN claim both United and City have ‘extensively’ watched Seri in action this season.

And he would certainly prove a cheaper acquisition at United than another transfer target, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who Lazio price at £131m.
