UPDATE: BNI Director Sacked

The director of Bureau of National Investigations William Akwasi Appiah has been re-assigned, the Minister of National Security Albert Kan Dapaah has confirmed to Starrfmonline.com.

He has been replaced by the Director General at the Research Department responsible for External Intelligence and also Ambassador-at-large Rashid Inusah.

Mr. Appiah has been moved to the Ministry of National Security.

“Yes, there has been some changes. We’re issuing a statement to that effect soon,” Mr. Dapaah told starrfmonline.com
The decision was taken at a meeting held at the BNI headquarters in Accra Thursday afternoon.

It is unclear the reasons behind the changes at the fortified investigative edifice, however, sources say it may be linked to the arrest of deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Koku Anyidoho and how some opposition officials including former President John Mahama had access to him while behind bars.

A statement from the Minister of Information Mustapha Hamid also announced that: “Peter Nyarko Opata, Deputy Director-General of the Research Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration is now Director-General of the Research Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.”
