Chelsea news: Gary Neville makes huge claim about Antonio Conte being sacked

ANTONIO CONTE can have few complaints when he is sacked by Chelsea at the end of the season.
That is the verdict of Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville.

Conte has edged closer to the exit door at Stamford Bridge after Chelsea were beaten 3-1 by Tottenham on Sunday.

The defeat was a damaging blow to their hopes of finishing in the Premier League top four and comes less than a year after they won the title.

But behind the scenes, rows over transfers and an indifferent season has left Conte’s position under threat.

And Neville says Chelsea’s policy hiring and firing managers means Conte’s always unlikely to last long.
“I don’t think he’s going to be here next season,” he said on the Gary Neville Podcast.

“We’ve thought it for six or seven months.

“And that’s not because we don’t want him here, or we don’t think he’s done a great job, it’s just the nature of the job here. It’s such that when you have a season slightly worse than before, you go.

“It ends up becoming a bit messy, press conferences become the boardroom versus manager, it’s happened here many, many times.

“It has been a successful club over 10 or so years, but in the second seasons, it’s never been great.

“In terms of the outcome, you can’t complain about what they’ve done here.
“But the managers who come here know they’ve got a short period of time.”

Speaking after the defeat, Conte insisted he had no worries about his job.

He said: “I don’t know, I don’t know. I don’t know about this, but we didn’t speak about a project.

“I don’t know, you have to ask the club, not me. I repeat, my task is to work, and I know that I work, 24 hours, for Chelsea, me and my staff.

“This is our task. Then the club has to take the decision. But I repeat, I am not worried about this.”
