Chelsea staff have big fear about Alvaro Morata: Antonio Conte unhappy

CHELSEA boss Antonio Conte is unhappy with Alvaro Morata’s contributions on the pitch.
Morata, who cost Chelsea an initial £58million last summer, has bagged just one goal in the Premier League since Boxing Day.

That is in stark contrast to the former Real Madrid striker’s start to life in England, when he netted six goals in his six appearances.

And, according to The Sun, Conte believes Morata needs to produce the goods on a more consistent basis.

Chelsea staff fear Morata’s inconsistent form boils down to the Spaniard not treating football as his main priority.

The 24-year-old’s poor form resulted in him being left out of Spain’s squad during the recent international break.

Speaking before Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat against Tottenham – the first game after the break – Conte claimed Morata had returned to full fitness after injury and backed him to make Spain’s World Cup squad.

He said: “Now Alvaro is really fit, 100%, and ready to have an important final of the season: for Chelsea and then, for him, to have the chance to go and play in the World Cup.”
Morata arrived at Chelsea as a replacement for Diego Costa, who was infamously binned off by Conte via text message, after Romelu Lukaku joined Manchester United instead.

The Italian boss is set to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season and former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley believes he is to blame for his own downfall.

“The guys who came in in the summer haven’t been up to it,” Burley told ESPN FC.

“I know Morata got his goal [against Tottenham], but he was on his backside half the first half again.
“It goes back to Costa in the summer.

“If you text message a player to tell him you’re not wanted, right first of all you don’t do it to a youth-team player, a reserve-team player, or any player.

“But if you’re going to treat somebody like that, you’re damn well sure you’ve got your man lined up. Your man lined up to replace him.

“He didn’t and that was absolute folly back then.”
