Lionel Messi tells Neymar to join Red Devils – claims
Lionel Messi has reportedly told Neymar to snub a move to Real Madrid and join Manchester United instead.
Neymar, 26, remains close to the Barcelona forward despite quitting the Catalan giants for PSG back in the summer.
Neymar is supposedly keen to quit PSG having been disappointed at the low standard of football in France.
Manchester United have the money to strike a deal, even though Jose Mourinho has ruled out signing a blockbuster forward.
And Messi, Don Balon say, would prefer Neymar to join United than Real Madrid.
Kane apology…
The FA has apologised to Spurs & Manchester United for a tweet sent on the official FA Cup account following the club’s semi-final clash at Wembley.
United won the game 2-1 and after full-time, a tweet was posted which appeared to poke fun at the performance of Spurs and England striker Harry Kane.
In a mock-interview style, the tweet read: “Me: What’s that in your pocket, Chris?” before posting a video of Chris Smalling saying: “Harry Kane”.
The tweet has since been deleted by the @EmiratesFACup account, which has over 171,000 followers.
Fergie wanted these signings
Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has revealed the three players Sir Alex Ferguson was monitoring shortly before his retirement.
Meulensteen named Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan and Bundesliga stars Marco Reus and Mats Hummels as players on Ferguson’s radar.
“We looked at a few German players like Hummels, who went to Bayern Munich.
“I think we looked at Gundogan and Reus, too. There was a number of players but we never got that specific to really target them,” he told the Manchester Evening News.
Transfer insight
Jose Mourinho says Manchester United are not going to “spend, spend, spend” when the transfer window rolls around this summer.
A whole host of star names have been touted as potential targets, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Jorginho.
However, Mourinho has suggested he will be looking to make just a couple of signings while bringing through some of Manchester United’s academy graduates.
“We are going to invest the basic to improve our squad,” said Jose Mourinho, when asked if he expected spend big in the summer.
“There is always in the group of players, in the squad, there is always a player or a couple of players who are not playing a lot, and they will obviously try to leave, so we are going again to touch [tweak] our squad and to believe that more than [a case of] spend, spend, spend, is probably the evolution of our players.
“We have some young players that need to get, with both hands, opportunities with their evolution, so let’s see.”
