NPP Polls: ‘I didn’t buy votes’ – Agorhom

Newly-elected Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Divine Otoo Agorhom, has revealed that he gave GHS100 to each of the delegates who took part in the party’s weekend conference as transportation.

According to him, others were paid less than GH100 due to where they came from within the region.

The NPP elected their regional executives who will steer affairs of the party for the next four years.

Speaking on Ghana Yensom hosted by Chief Jerry Forson on Accra100.5FM on Monday, 23 April, Mr Agorhom said: “All we need at the moment is unity ahead of the 2020 elections, and, so, I am working to ensure that unity.

“It was an internal contest we all engaged in, we said a lot of things about ourselves, we all used the name of the president to campaign even though the president knew nothing about it but the elections are over, so, we need to bury our differences for the sake of the party.”

When asked whether he bought votes from the delegates, he said: “I didn’t buy the votes even though I gave out some moneys to the delegates to be used as transportation.

“The delegates came from far and near to meet us when we were campaigning. It is a normal practice that you give them some money to be used as transportation and that was what I did.

“Some were given GHS100 and others less depending on where they came from to meet us.”
