LIVERPOOL sensation Mohamed Salah is the best player in the world on current form, claims BT Sport pundits Rio Ferdinand and Steven Gerrard.
Salah scored twice and assisted another two in Liverpool’s 5-2 Champions League semi-final first-leg win over Roma tonight.
The Egyptian has now scored 43 goals in all competitions for the Reds, second behind Ian Rush’s all-time record of 47 in a season for the club.
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand put aside his bias to heap praise on Salah.
“I’ve run out of words to describe the way this guy is performing this year,” Ferdinand said after the game at Anfield.
“Did we expect it at the beginning of the season? No. But he’s shown here that you can go away, work at your game and you can come back and go beyond what anyone would imagine.
“His finishing tonight, he’s got to be regarded as, in form wise, one of if not the best player on the planet at the moment with the way he’s doing things.
“There isn’t anyone on the pitch when he plays he feels can stop him, nobody can seem to contain him.
“He gets into positions where defenders are not able to cope with him. He’s been a tremendous asset to this Liverpool team.”
Former Liverpool captain Gerrard says there is no doubt Salah is ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi on current form.
“He’s in the form of his life,” Gerrard said.
“It’s difficult to compare him to the likes of your Ronaldos and Messis because they’ve done it for so long and have been consistent year in, year out.
“But, without a shadow of a doubt, he’s the best player on the planet right now.”
