Arsenal news: Ainsley Maitland-Niles offers emotional apology to fans after Man Utd defeat

ARSENAL star Ainsley Maitland-Niles has apologised to fans after losing to Manchester United on Sunday.
The Gunners’ youthful side almost left Old Trafford with a point before Marouane Fellaini popped up in the closing minutes to head home the winner.

Arsene Wenger failed to get a desired result on his final trip to the Theatre of Dreams, and Arsenal are still the only team in England’s top four divisions to not pick up a single away point in 2018.

And despite relishing the opportunity to play against one of the world’s biggest clubs, Maitland-Niles has apologised to the travelling Arsenal fans.

“It is so unfortunate to fight so hard and then to go down so late in the game,” he said.
“Words can’t describe how we feel right now and apologies to the fans to let them down late on.

“I love playing centre midfield and to do that for Arsenal at Manchester United in the Premier League is a dream come true.

“I guess it was a bit nerve-racking for the lads without a full squad, but we knew we had to give the manager a proper send-off and do our best.”
Matiland-Niles was one of many youngsters given a chance by Wenger on Sunday.

Reiss Nelson and Kostas Mavropanos also featured from the outset as the Gunners prepare for their trip to Atletico Madrid on Thursday.

Arsenal are in trouble after failing to see out their lead against Diego Simeone’s men in the first leg last week.
