George Afriyie holds no Nyantakyi grudges despite sack

George Afriyie says he bears no grudge against Ghana Football Association boss Kwesi Nyantakyi despite his shock dismissal as the Vice President.

Afriyie, who has been second-in-command to Nyantakyi for three years was sacked following a meeting of the GFA Executive Committee last week. This followed his sacking as the Chairman of the Black Stars management committee.

It’s believed Afriyie was relieved of the two huge portfolios as a result of him declaring his presidential ambitions.



The 50-year-old stated clearly he will contest to become the next president of the local football governing body at his birthday celebrations in March.

However, according to Mr Afriyie, he holds no animosity and will continue to support his former boss.

“I will continue to support Nyantakyi because he has laid some reforms that I believe if implemented will help develop our football,” Afriyie told Asempa FM.

“I’ve always supported him and will continue to do so but that doesn’t mean I will change my mind of contesting for the position in 2019.”

“He has done all he could for Ghana football and I think the time has come for him vacate the seat.”

Afriyie went on to address critics who labelled him as a betrayal for announcing his intentions to succeed Nyantakyi.

“If I hear people saying my timing is wrong I get baffled because they have no idea the close door meetings I held with him. I’m the last person who will betray him.”
