If you contest, you’ll lose heavily – Afriyie to Nyantakyi

Former Ghana Football Association Vice President George Afriyie believes his ex-boss Kwesi Nyantakyi will suffer an embarrassing defeat if he contest the GFA presidential election in 2019.

Afriyie, 50, has again advised Nyantakyi to stay true to his words. Nyantakyi has said he will not seek re-election but he is under pressure from some Executive Committee members to rescind his decision.

“People should not deceive him [Kwesi Nyantakyi]. He will lose the elections. He has become unpopular. He does not have the public support. You may win with 123 delegates but when you don’t have the support of over 23 million (sic) Ghanaian people, then there is a big problem,” he said on Asempa FM.

Afriyie, who has declared his intention to contest for the top job added that he is prepared to slug it out with Nyantakyi if he changes his mind.

“It’s an election and can also be deceived but I will contest whether he re-contest or not.

“I am very optimistic and so we should wait.”

It appears the battle lines have been drawn for the two men ahead of next year’s polls.
