We recruited people to support Nyantakyi with beer, cigarettes and positions – George Afriyie

All you need to rise within the Ghana Football Association is a constant supply of cigarretes, and booze.

That’s according to recently dismissed Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie. He claims the political longevity of GFA capo Kwesi Nyantakyi has been by plying power-hungry officials with these, in additions to juicy positions.

Speaking to Asempa FM on Monday morning, the football administrator lamented the quality of people Nyantakyi keeps around him.

“When I hear the word loyalty, then I ask myself, who is a loyal person? Is it the man who is ready to do anything for you, or the man who speaks on radio for you and comes to you to take money to buy cigarette and beer?”

“I won’t support Kwesi Nyantakyi on radio and go to his office thereafter. I have supported the President with my money, my life and everything. I will be the last person to betray him. I want him to understand that I am not part of the people who support him on radio for money.”

“In fact those people who used to speak on radio for him, we know them. Some of us have used beer, cigarette, money and positions to recruit [some of those] people to support Kwesi Nyantayi!”

According to Afriyie, he has contributed a lot to the success story of Nyantakyi and for him to be removed as the Vice President clearly indicates that the president has dug his own grave.

“By removing me as the vice president, Nyantakyi has cut off one of his legs because I personally recruited people to go on radio and speak for him to redeem the image of the association.”

The African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Organizing Committee Member also says that Nyantakyi will lose if he contests in the 2019 GFA elections.
