This year’s May Day celebration is being held at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi and expected to be present today is President Akufo-Addo, Vice, Dr. Bawumia, Ministers of State and dignitaries from other regions in Ghana.
The day is set aside to recognize and celebrate hard working Ghanaians who have contributed to nation building.
Parades will be held in other parts of the country to mark the day, and as usual various workers’ unions are expected to have their march with placards bearing different messages some of which are messages of their expectations of government.
The occasion also presents the opportunity to some disgruntled labour unions to express their discontent with government’s handling of issues such as their salaries and conditions of service.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is expected to launch one significant initiative; the Nation Builder’s Corp today as part of efforts to confront unemployment among the Ghanaian youth in the country.
Though every year, government is confronted with numerous labour agitations over major concerns such as delayed and non-payment of salaries, poor conditions of service among others, they have resulted to negotiations with the unions involved to avoid chaos.
