Man Utd news: Samuel Umtiti’s Barcelona move to be ‘agreed before World Cup’ – report

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly confident of striking an agreement with Barcelona for Samuel Umtiti in the coming weeks.
Jose Mourinho is already making plans for his summer overhaul with the transfer window fast approaching.

One area the Portuguese boss is keen to strengthen is central defence and Barcelona centre-back Umtiti remains at the top of his wishlist.

Umtiti’s future at the Nou Camp remains uncertain with the Frenchman locked in talks over a new deal, less than two years after joining.

Umtiti has a £52million release clause in his current contract and is thought to be demanding a huge wage increase to sign a new deal.

United are ready to take advantage of the situation and offer him a way out though.

Spanish publication Sport claim Mourinho is pushing ahead with his plans to secure Umtiti’s signature and talks have been held.
They go as far to say they expect talks to continue in the coming weeks with an agreement set to be reached between all parties before the World Cup gets underway next month.

With Umtiti arriving at Old Trafford, Mourinho needs to clear out some of the deadwood.

The Sun Say the former Chelsea boss is ready to part with Victor Lindelof after just one season and could send him out on loan.

The Sweden international has struggled to hit the ground running since his switch from Benfica and United are supposedly ready to offload him to allow Umtiti to sign.
A United source told the paper: “Victor has plenty of promise but Jose is wondering whether to send him out on loan next year.

“(Chris) Smalling is back in favour and he has some other targets he wants to pursue at the back throughout the summer.

“Victor is now looking over his shoulder. He has dropped off in games while being rotated and that is frustrating for the boss.

“He is happy to bide his time here despite the question marks. The others can be trusted, and he can’t just yet.”
