COPEC ready to help Special Prosecutor probe BOST scandal

Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) has expressed their readiness to furnish the Special Prosecutor with “further and better particulars” to help investigate the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST) for its alleged involvement in a $5.1m “shady deal”.

COPEC had alleged that BOST sold 1.8 million barrels of crude oil to BB Energy, an oil marketing company, at a discount of $2 per barrel, causing the state to lose about $5.1 million and consequently petitioned the Special Prosecutor to investigate the matter.

The Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, responded to the petition brought before his office by COPEC in a letter dated April 11, 2018 acknowledging receipt and expressing his readiness to look into the matter.

“I have carefully read your petition and directed that it should be brought up to the appropriate division for future action as soon as it is established,” the letter stated.

The Special Prosecutor also indicated in his response to COPEC that they should prepare to provide further and better particulars.

Speaking on 3FM’s Sunrise, Duncan Amoah said they are fully prepared to give the special prosecutor all that is required to investigate the matter.

“And so whatever documents that are necessary for the probing of the BOST issue we will make them available as soon as the office set up is ready so and we should get to the button of the matter”, he said.

He added COPEC is not surprised with the Special Prosecutor’s response because they (COPEC) brought the case before him knowing that they would have to support him investigate same.

“I have said and I will repeat that, we are willing today, tomorrow, anyday that the office is ready give him the appropriate support by way of better and further particulars”, he reiterated.

COPEC remains positive that investigations into the matter will be in their favour.

“Based on our findings we have petitioned them him, we know for a fact that if he was to go by our findings his conclusions will be the same as us but in order not to prejudice his investigation we will only make available to him all the documents we have, all the leads, all the intelligence, all the necessary leads he would need to undertake his investigation”
