Don’t Blame NDC For Asantehene Rift – Apaak Warns NPP

The National Democratic Congress has warned the New Patriotic Party not to blame the party over their rift with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

According to the NDC, it has more important issues to think of and has no interest in fueling the feud between the NPP and the Asantehene.

The Ashanti regional General Secretary of the NPP Sam Pyne on Friday accused the NDC of fueling the rift between the revered Monarch of the Asante Kingdom and the party.

In Mr. Pyne’s view, some comments and publications by NDC-affiliated media houses and Newspapers are indications that the opposition party is escalating the tension between the Asantehene and the NPP.

The tension between the NPP and the Asantehene became public after some top executives of the ruling party were seen kneeling before the King at the Manhyia Palace to beg him after the Asantehene got furious over claims that some top NPP members were pitching him against Akyems and the Okyehene.

The executives including acting general secretary John Boadu and Ashanti regional Chairman Antwi Boasiako popularly called Chairman Wontumi are seen in the photos attempting to make peace with the Asantehene.
Dr. Nana Agyenim Boateng, President of the Concerned Youth of Ashanti has stated that the former Director of the Danquah Institute Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko and the Executive Secretary to the President Asante Bediatuo have been speaking ill and undermining the Asantehene.

Otchere Darko has, however, dismissed the reports that he is undercutting and inciting Akyems against the Asantehene.

But former Presidential Staffer and Member of Parliament for Builsa South Clement Apaak has warned the NPP not to link the party to the ongoing fracas between them and the Asantehene.

“The situation seems to have reached a limit where the King has publicly called attention to it…we did not cause the King to make the statement that he made.

“We did not cause them to kneel down to apologise to the King…that is not in our interest,” Dr. Apaak told Morning Starr host Francis Abban.
