I am the tree of rap; current rappers are branches – Gyedu-Blay Ambolley brags

Veteran musician, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley has patted himself on the back for being the originator of the rap genre in the world.

The man known to have infused rap forms into local highlife rhythms has told Joy FM’s Lexis Bill in an interview on the Drive Time show that when it comes to rap, he was the tree while current rappers were just branches of him.

“Talk about rap, I am that I am; I am the tree. The rest are all branches…” he said boldly.

According to him, he thinks the Guinness Book of Records is flawed by inking American hip hop group, Sugar Hill Gang as the originators of rap music.

“The Guinness Book of Records said rap was brought about by Sugar Hill but before but my work preceded theirs. My first recording came out in 1973 and that was the first ever rap recorded”, he told Lexis Bill.
