Frances Essiam Must Face The Law If Found Guilty – Edward Bawa

A former communications consultant for the Energy Ministry and Member of Parliament Edward Bawa has called for sanctions for the suspended Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company Limited (GCMCL) Frances Essiam, if she is found guilty of administrative malpractices.

The firebrand politician was suspended by the board of the company over allegations of financial malpractices and cronyism at the state-owned firm.

The state enterprises commission and the board of the GCML have both established committees to probe the claims against her. She has denied any wrongdoing and accused the board chair of targeting her.
The Board, has in the interim, appointed the Technical Director of the company, Mr. Ezekiel Mensah to act in the absence of Madam Essiam. Mr. Mensah, however, does not have the power to take “major administrative decisions such as promotion, termination of appointment, dismissal or engagement of new employees without the consent of the Board.”

Commenting on the development, the Bongo MP told Francis Abban on the Morning Starr that the Energy ministry must decide the most competent outfit to lead the investigations.

“The Energy Minister should step in now especially now that there is a policy to roll out the Cylinder re-circulation program. The GCMC has a key role to play in the re-circulation. If this is happening, the program will fail. The Energy Minister should lead the process and take a decision as to which institution conducts the investigations. If Frances Essiam is found guilty after the investigations, she will have to face the law”.
