Asantehene brouhaha: We’ll beat you up if you fuel this nonsense – Sefa Kayi to politicians

Ace Broadcaster, Kwami Sefa Kayi, has issued a stern warning to politicians who intend on fanning the current feud between the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and some members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to their advantage.

According to the host of PeaceFM’s political talk show, the citizenry will not sit down and allow politicians use tribal sentiments to advance their political ambitions and gains.

His comments come after speculations of a feud between people of Akyem and Asante descent which is allegedly being capitalized on by politicians to score political points.

It was a tense moment at Manhyia Palace last Wednesday as NPP executives fell to their knees to apologise to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to plead for forgiveness following the Asantehene’s outburst suggesting there are active attempts from some people close to government to pitch him against the Akyems.

NPP executives who trooped the Manhyia Palace to have a word with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II had no choice than to kneel and beg to their advantage.

The NPP executives were led by acting General Secretary, John Boadu – who was in the region to campaign – Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, party Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, and Regional Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization, Kwabena Senkyire.
During a heated studio discussion on his show, the 2016 GJA Journalist of the year advised politicians to foster “friendships, unity and bonds” or face the wrath of the citizenry since their actions can potentially result in chaos.

He stated; “Let us look more at things that unite us than things that divide us…To gain political advantage over each other all the time, you fan these tribal sentiments all the time. If it’s the NDC in opposition, you think about a way to fan it and if it’s the NPP in opposition, they also look for a way to fan it. One day, we will take our country from your hands and beat you up”
He cautioned them saying “I’ve worked with you (politicians) almost 25 years. If you don’t take care and you back this nonsense over a period and you drive us down where we don’t want to go, we will turn on you because we won’t allow your politics to become President and Minister, and MP to cripple our nation…as long as I sit on radio and have a voice and you start this thing, some of us will take a position individually and collectively, and we will turn against you”.
