Man Utd injury news: Romelu Lukaku claim made by Andy Cole ahead of Chelsea FA Cup final

MANCHESTER UNITED star Romelu Lukaku will play against Chelsea in the FA Cup final even if he is not 100 per cent fit.
That’s the verdict of Old Trafford great Andy Cole, who’s also hailed the goalscoring prowess the Belgian has displayed this season.

Lukaku is a doubt for Saturday’s showdown with his old club Chelsea at Wembley due to an ankle injury suffered against Arsenal last month.

That represents something of a problem for Jose Mourinho who has relied heavily on the hitman since he arrived in Manchester last summer.

Mourinho recently bemoaned the performances of Lukaku’s deputies Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, although the Frenchman is now injured too.
However, Cole believes Manchester United need not worry because he says Lukaku will be ready to put his body on the line even if he is not fully fit.

“I’ve watched him all season, like everybody else,” Cole told ManUtd.com. “I think he looks fantastic.

“To get the goals he’s got this season, in a team that doesn’t create loads of chances for him, he’s done brilliantly and really well considering it’s his first season at Old Trafford.
“It’s not nice when you’ve got that little bit of rhythm and pick up an injury. You know you’ve got a massive game coming up and are a bit touch and go or whatever.

“So it may be difficult for him but, hopefully, he’ll be passed fit and do the best he can.

“It’s not every year you’re going to get to the FA Cup final. There are no doubts that, if he’s even 90, 80 or 70 per cent fit, he’ll give it a go.”
Speaking after last Sunday’s 1-0 win over Watford, Mourinho provided a promising update on Lukaku’s race to be fit.

“[Martial is] injured,” said Mourinho. “He was injured, he was injured Friday training session, yesterday couldn’t train.

“He had treatment in the morning at the training round and he stayed away. I don’t know.

“I know that Romelu will be back for Tuesday because he’s in the last week [of rehabilitation] and we have to see but Anthony I have no more.”
