MANCHESTER UNITED are set to go into a recruitment overdrive this summer with SIX players expected to leave.
Jose Mourinho will be given the chance to rebuild the squad in an attempt to battle champions Manchester City.
City finished the season 19 points clear of Manchester United in second and Mourinho is ready to be cut-throat this summer.
The Daily Mirror report he will be handed £250m to sign five players with another six going out the door.
Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian, Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial will be sold on to help boost the transfer kitty, while Marouane Fellaini looks likely to leave after failing to agree a new deal.
The sixth player is the retiring Michael Carrick who will join the coaching staff at Old Trafford.
Blind and Darmian have has few chances under Mourinho after joining under Louis van Gaal and finally look set to leave.
Shaw has been in and out but has never had an extended run in the team following his injury problems.
Mourinho has been publicly critical of the former Southampton man and a parting of the ways looks on the cards.
Martial has also struggled under Mourinho after bursting onto the scene under Van Gaal.
The France ace has not scored since the end of January despite playing in 13 matches in that time.
He has been linked with Tottenham, Juventus and Barcelona and would likely generate a profit on the £36m United signed him for back in 2015.
Mourinho was optimistic Fellaini would commit to a new deal at United but he is still yet to sign and could leave.
Fellaini, 30, has not been involved since the defeat to Brighton on May 4.
United want to strengthen at centre-back, left-back, in midfield and out wide again this summer after a season without a trophy and little spark.
United finished second and were beaten in the FA Cup final on Saturday, they were miserable in Europe, getting knocked out of the Champions League by Sevilla in the round of 16.
And midfielder Nemanja Matic has urged Mourinho to get experienced players in.
“We need some players with some experience to bring some more qualities to our team,” said former Chelsea player Matic.
“After that, we can fight for the title and the Champions League also. I think that we have improved.”
