We have increased fares by 10 % – Two Unions

Two driver unions, Concerned Drivers and True Drivers Union have served notice of an increment in transport fares effective today, Monday,May 28.

The drivers say the decision to increase the fares is due to the increment in petroleum products.

Spokesperson for the two unions, David Agboado said, although petroleum products have increased over a period, they have not increased the fares.

In interview with Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, he indicated that the increment has become necessary ‘’due to the rapid and insensitive increment on fuel prices in recent times.’’

The drivers are planning to increase fares by 10 per cent and ‘’We are therefore left with no option than to share this unwarranted burden put on us by the government with our customers.’’

He expressed his frustration at the inability of the Road Transport Corporation to increase the fares as established by law. He noted that anytime

‘’We go to the corporation, we told the minister is not around, he has gone to a funeral and as two unions, we have joined forces to effect the increment and using this medium to inform the general public to take note.’’
